ow do I even begin this blog post..hmmm..well lets start shall we. As a child I used to watch lots of old flicks with my family. The movies we watched together definitely became embedded in my memory till this day. I can still fondly remember such movies like Tom Sawyer, Pollyana, Sinbad just to name a few. Those fond memories still play in my mind till this day. One movie that is still vivid in my mind has to be the movie ‘The World of Suzie Wong’ . The World of Suzie Wong is a 1957 novel written by Richard Mason. The main star of that movie was non other than the beautiful actress Miss Nancy Kwan. I reckon if you really want to find out more about the movie, you should really take a trip to your local DVD store (buy originals please,
).
nyway I could hardly believe it when my family and I were actually going to take a trip to Hong Kong. I had never ever been to that side of the world before, so I really had no idea what to really expect. All I was often told was that ‘It’s really like Singapore, but on Steroids!’ . Wow! great I thought to myself ! That would defintely be an experience, and an experience it definitely was. Despite the fact the trip lasted only a few days, I really learned so much in that short period of time. One of the lessons I learned from this short trip was just how fortunate all of us really are. You see in Hong Kong space is very, very, very expensive and when I say expensive I really mean it. Apparently the most expensive space to live in Asia, is in Hong Kong! I heard some appartment spaces in HK can fetch an asking price of HKD20,000 (about RM10,000) per sq ft.
nyway, one thing I noticed while I was there that the people in Hong Kong are very busy indeed. They hardly have time to really be sociable people. Generally speaking if you’re going to Hong Kong to have a good time interacting with the locals, then this place definitely isn’t for you mate. The locals tended to mind their own business at all times. At times I did feel sad looking at how things operated there. It was almost like being in a large amusement park where your every shopping desire is catered for. What Hong Kong lacked in terms of nature it provided with material wealth. In this city I didn’t find one park at all for one to unwind and just sit around. Hong Kong is literally as the saying goes, ‘A Concrete Jungle’ . On a positive note though the city was very clean and civil order was always maintained at all times with the presence of police everywhere in the city centre. By the way we managed to go up to Victoria’s Peak (the highest spot in HK) and the view was definitely amazing!
fter staying a few days in the city centre, the time had come for me and my family to get out of this huge concrete heap and head to Disneyland™ Hong Kong. Hurray! It was definitely something all of us looked forward to. The last trip I ever took to Disneyland™ was when I was really young and that was back in the eighties, and it was the one in California. That being said I was definitely quite excited to see first hand a Cantonese speaking Disneyland™ !
hen we arrived at Disneyland™ Hotel I was definitely struck by awe at just how well the locals had executed the project. The hotel was simply gorgeous, (of course service was not as good as the Four Seasons™ we were staying just the day before). It was tucked away in a mountainous area ‘far, far away’ from the hustle and bustle of the city life. Weather wise it was definitely a lot cooler then the city, not too mention breezier too. Anyway all of us thoroughly enjoyed our time there together and if given the chance to go back there again,it would most definitely be a strong ‘maybe’.

Can you spot the ‘hidden’ plane?

This was the gorgeous view of the harbour from my hotel room.

This picture to me really depicts the people of Hong Kong.

A very interesting flower arrangement at the hotel we stayed in, The Four Seasons™ Hotel.
The architecture in Hong Kong was extremely bold and modern in most places.
Even at night, food and drink was always available. Food in this city acts as a catalyst for one to meet and socialise.

Can you spot the ‘hidden’ plane again?

One thing I really remember about Hong Kong is the ‘walking’. This city is so centralised that one can get by many places within its precincts just by walking.

Guess Who?

I couldn’t help but snap at this. I mean like what a catchy sign.

What I really loved about HK was the fact that it had so many cosy tiny spots just waiting to be ‘discovered’. This is one such spot.

I saw this cool miniatures displayed in an art shop as I was walking down the road. I thought it’s really cool so I snapped.
This man was preparing some noodles. His face had a million stories to tell, alas the spoon that ‘feeds’ him prevents him from saying.
A woman by the roadside sells rice. This city has many examples of extremes. The rich there are really rich and vice versa.
If you look carefully you can even see a plane in the background. It’s so amazing that every inch of this island seems to be so busy.Btw can you still spot the ‘hidden’ plane yet?

I don’t know why but I really liken this city to New York. It really is in my opinion the Big Apple of the East.
This is the Landmark shopping Mall. While we were there, a low budget Hong Kong soap was filming.
This city boast an exceptional public transport system, which also include trams.

By the way this wasn’t the boat we got on, although we thought it would be this one at first. Thankfully not, as there were a bunch of drunkards who stepped out of it as soon as it anchored. Phew!

This is the ship we took to go sightseeing around the harbour at night.
Disneyland™ Hong Kong.
